The recently completed African Bank U18 school soccer tournament  #Iyabila , saw the tournament name a school in Tshwane as champions in the girl’s category.

Rosina Sedibane Secondary School girls’ soccer team were crowned champions of the inaugural African Bank U18 football challenge on Sunday, after defeating Namedi Secondary School from Soweto at the UJ AW Muller Stadium.

“It is very surreal to have won the inaugural competition. In fact, they were not preparing for this tournament, the girls have been training for the Tshwane Women Regional League, so to come here and win the cup, it is very honouring and inspiring”, said Gae Lephalo, Coach of Rosina Sedibane Secondary School.

“It was very tough but we used it to grow, and with support from the school and their coaches for them, it became easy and inspired them to put in more effort to come out on top and it is very nice to know we did”, captain of the RSSS, Tshepang Masuku said.

The teammates dedicated their victory to a fellow student of theirs, who passed away in August. “We actually lost a fellow student at school and this is for her”, Tshepang said.Along with the trophy, RSSS girls’ soccer team won R15,000 for their school, courtesy of African Bank, in partnership with the University of Johannesburg.

The tournament also crowned Clapham High School as champions in the boy’s category.
